The gateway to Uganda’s national parks is Kampala, the country’s main administrative hub and a significant commercial hub with a contemporary capital ornamented with lush flora. Drive out early in the morning to see places like the Nommo Art Gallery and other craft shops, the kasubi tombs, Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine (where young Christians were burned by the king of Buganda for refusing to worship him), the Gadhafi Mosque, and so on. To visit the Parliament, the Independence Monument, and other locations, keep driving through the city.
Depending on time constraints and whether you choose to stop for lunch in the city, you’ll complete all these things. You can either head back to your hotel in the late evening to unwind or, if a Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday happens to fall on those days, you can go for a cultural experience at the Ndere Cultural Center and take in shows about Ugandan culture.
